Heather's Cool Pool School Swimming Lessons

Heather Fenton

I am the Heather in the Cool Pool School! Most of my fun and  interesting facts you can read in the "About HCPS " page, but basically, yes, splashin' is my passion! I have been teaching since I was 14 years old and started my own swim school many years later after the nudging of parents from many summer swimmers I was teaching. Learning is a lifelong experience. It is amazing to watch swimmers improve and grow in both their swim skills and personal abilities. I love the fact that many of my little swimmers are now becoming swim instructors themselves as they pass through their teen years. They are all amazing young instructors that I admire. Come on down to the pool sometime and say hello. Bring that swim suit as I just might have space to invite you in for a swim!

Mette Novais

Hello my name is Mette Novais and I am a coach with Heather's Cool Pool School. I love teaching and coaching swimmers of all ages and I can really say that swimming is my passion. I was born and raised in Aalborg, Denmark and I have been coaching since I was 16 years old. I came from a very sport oriented family and started swimming on a swim team in my childhood years. I was a strong swimmer and I worked very hard at training. I was selected as a National swimmer competing in World Cup and Olympic trials for Denmark. I attended University in Denmark and hold a Danish Masters Degree in social work.  After coming to Canada I worked in the social work field for a while, but then my passion of swimming started calling to me and I became a coach with the Oakville Aquatic Club starting the Sears I Can Swim program, and shortly thereafter joining the Oakville Masters club as head coach. Currently there are 145 swimmers in the Masters club of various levels. At about the same time 17 years ago, I also started working with Heather at HCPS, which has been a wonderful experience. I love working with Heather and the children and seeing them improve and grow into becoming amazing swimmers with such confidence. Give swimming a chance and it will be your sport for life.

Bailey Fenton

My name is Bailey Fenton and well I definitely grew up as a water baby with Heather’s Cool Pool School. I began swimming first in the kitchen sink at about 1 week old, and then graduated to the pool by about 8 months, and was a natural by that age. I loved going under the water and spent a lot of time plunging my head in and picking up toys from the bottom.  I had a lot of opportunity swimming in the pool and completed my Bronze awards in Oakville and Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. I then went on and took my Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, Lifesaving Swim Instructor, Lifesaving Bronze Instructor, Emergency First Aid Instructor, National Lifeguard, and I was recently certified in my Lifesaving Examiners, as well.  During the school year I am at Dalhousie University in Halifax where I am working towards a double major in Oceanography and Atmospheric Science. It is a lot of work, but I really enjoy learning about how the ocean works, as there is so much still to discover with the body of water that covers most of our planet. A passion for me is music, and I enjoy playing the piano, clarinet, saxophone, as well as trombone which I play for the Burlington Teen Tour Band.  We are Canada's musical ambassadors and have travelled the world to represent the country at international historic events.  In the winter, I enjoy snowboarding, where I also hold my instructors. During summer months I love being on the ocean in Nova Scotia swimming and teaching sailing, which is another instructor certification I hold! I am active on the Lunenburg Yacht Club race team, where I sail competitively in the 420 division during racing season. Hope to see you around the pool soon!

Meranda Phannenhour

Hi, my name is Meranda Phannenhour and I love everything about swimming, especially meeting new swimmers and getting to teach all year round. I am currently in my 3rd year of Child and Youth Studies at Brock University and it is awesome being able to apply what I learn there to the classes I teach here. I have been swimming with Heather’s Cool Pool School for as long as I can remember. I currently have my Redcross Instructors and First Aid, and my Lifesaving Instructors. My favourite place to swim is in the Florida Keys because the water is so clear making for excellent snorkeling tours!

Samantha Oswald

Hi, my name is Samantha, or my students know me as Sammy. I was born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa and I moved to Canada 5 years ago. I am in my second year of College at Sheridan and I am studying to become an Early Childhood Educator.  I have been a swimmer ever since I was a kid, and I used to be a competitive and club swimmer back in South Africa. In high school I joined the field hockey and swim team. When I have time, I have been training with the Oakville Masters.  I have my Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, NLS and Life-saving instructors, that I did with the Town of Oakville. I also have my Red Cross Water Safety Instructors and my examiners with HCPS. This is my 4th year teaching at HCPS, and what I love about it is all the different children's personalities and seeing how happy they are when they have completed a level or when they have finally completed a skill that they have been struggling with. I love travelling, and on one of my trips to Cuba I swam with dolphins. I love swimming in the ocean and snorkelling as I love seeing the ocean colours and life.

Mitchell Moores

I am born and raised in Streetsville, Ontario. My swimming lessons have been primarily at Heather’s Cool Pool School since I was 5 months old.  I have completed all of the Bronze Awards, Instructor Courses, and I am a Lifeguard.  I prefer teaching lessons to life guarding because it is more interactive.  HCPS gave me the opportunity to be a teaching assistant to earn my pool hours in order to become an instructor.  At HCPS, the class sizes are small, so it gives each student a lot more one-on-one instruction targeting their needs.  I think the best part of teaching is when a child accomplishes something that they really were afraid of, like picking up a toy from the bottom or diving into the deep end.  In the summer, I work as a camp counsellor in Huntsville, so we get to swim in the lake as part of our daily activities.  I also play hockey & lacrosse.  My favourite summer activity is wake boarding and water skiing at the cottage.

Heather's Cool Pool School Swimming Lessons

My name is Hailie Goulden. I am 15 years old and I'm in grade 10. I was born and raised in Oakville, Ontario with my parents, sister and my dog. I really enjoy gymnastics and I have been taking circus style aerial arts since I was 4 years old. Swimming has been in my family for a while, as my mom was also a swimming instructor for Heather, so I basically learned to swim and spent many hours in the pool since I was just a baby.  I like working with children and teaching them the importance of water safety. I love art and music and I love makeup, whether special effects or aesthetics. I'm looking forward to sharing my love and appreciation for swimming and water safety with your children!

Heather's Cool Pool School Swimming Lessons

Hello, my name is Cole. I have been swimming at Heather's Cool Pool School since I was 5 and have just started teaching here. I have been swimming for a very long time, in my backyard pool as well as many lakes and oceans. I have completed all my levels at HCPS all the way up to my Bronze Cross and Water Safety Instructor certification and hope to get my NLS soon. I enjoy working at HCPS because I get great experience working with kids in an environment I love to be in and I get the opportunity to teach kids swimming, which is a skill that is extremely valuable to learn. Sailing is another passion of mine, which I love to do at any given chance. Sailing has taught me so many water safety skills and has taught me to be extremely careful around water because the weather can be so unpredictable. I love swimming and sailing in the lake because when the winds pick up and the waves get big, there is nothing more fun. I hope I can teach kids how to have as much fun as I do while being safe in the water!
